Why do I need a website?
A website is a valuable marketing tool for a musician or ensemble. It will give your audience all the information they want about you in a mouseclick.
You should also ask yourself these questions: Why do I want a website? What am I hoping to achieve with it? Who is my target audience? Are they fans, concert promoters or both? What sort of image do I want to convey?
So, I've decided I want a website. What now?
We will have an initial consultation - either in person, by phone or by email. We'll discuss what information the website will present, and start to think about the design and layout.
Next, you'll send all your text, pictures and sound clips to me and I will come up with a first draft. Once we have the design right I will complete the website. You will be able to see what I'm doing at every stage so that you have the opportunity to make whatever changes you wish.
How long will it take?
This really depends on the size and complexity of the website. Once you've sent all your information to me, I should be able to do the first draft within a week or so. Once we've agreed on the design, it will normally take up to two weeks for a small website and a little longer for a bigger one.
How much will it cost?
I cost each website individually, depending on requirements. Prices start from £125. You will also need to buy a domain name and some web hosting, which will usually cost from roughly £30 per year.
What's a domain name?
This is the name that identifies a website. For example, "musicalwebsites.com" is the domain name of this website.
What is web hosting?
Put very simply, web hosting is the space on the internet where all the files that make up your website are stored.
How / where do I buy these?
There are many companies that sell domain names and web hosting. We can discuss your requirements in our initial consultation and I can help you find a suitable package if you need me to.
What information should I include on my website?
This is entirely up to you! Things to consider are: biography, discography, reviews, repertoire list, audio samples, photo gallery, concert diary, contact / agent details.
What format should the sound clips be in? How long should they be?
They can be in any format. I will convert them to mp3 for the website. I usually suggest clips of 30-60 seconds. If you only have full tracks and can't cut them down into smaller clips I can do this for you.
Will my website come up in a search engine?
I submit all my websites to the Google and Yahoo directories. Once your site has been submitted, however, it may take a few weeks, or even months for your web site to be listed in their directory. This is because it takes time for the huge volume of submissions to be processed, and each Search Engine's database update schedule is different.
What about updating the website after it's finished?
I will do small updates - eg. changing the text in a biography - free of charge. Any more complicated changes will be charged at £15 per hour.
